It would, though, be nice to see the Wonga default removed from my credit file.

With a DMP on file. A single default pales into insignificance.
  • a friend of mine defaulted on his payments a good few yrs ago , possibly coming up to 5 yrs , he has a default ETC , if Wonga write to him , offer a lump of money etc and he replies , will this restart the 6 yr clock?

his intention was just to keep his head down for another yr or so

    That old chestnut, eh? :rotfl:
"Facism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you... [it] doesn't walk in saying, "our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."
  • yup , but true in this case

The wonga site says that if they shouldn't have lent then they will remove defaults etc, effectively making it look like they had no loan.

As true as this may be, it's more a matter of personal pride than anything else. I got myself into trouble during a difficult time in life. I'm on the cusp of getting myself out of it. While removing one default will make little difference, three defaults still sounds better than four.

Not quite. It will still show on the credit history that a payday loan has been taken out. Even though it won't show as a defaulted loan, it will still look poor to many mainstream lenders.

My friend had to get payday loan advice for his Wonga debt because it got so bad. The website is great if you think Wonga won't write your debt off and you are worried about repayments.

I almost got a payday loan out a few months ago but after seeing what my friend went through, I decided to ask a family friend for a loan instead.

I thought they were writing off the interest costs and fees rather than the whole loan? I'm sure that people are required to repay the actual sum borrowed (if they haven't already in interest payments), and it's the rest that will be paid off.

If they wrote off the capital as well, surely they'd go bust?
