How much would you charge?

This may sound like a strange question,
However, stay with me,
How much would you charge to write a blog post?
Nothing too fancy, just a mid length post, similar to the length of this forum post.
Without boring anyone with the details I have my own business and am looking to launch a blog to draw attention to us and possibly draw in a small amount of income from ads and stuff. However, as you might guess from this writing is not a strong point of mine and my time is at a real premium.
If i was to get someone else to write a blog post for me each day, and publish it on my blog, what would be the reasonable rate for people to charge?
I read people spending time doing surveys and stuff for pence, but i realise this does require a bit more thought and i want decent stuff.
Is a pound a post me been tight?
guess I'm asking what the going rate is??
Cheers Guys

Personally I write blog posts for others for £10+. I wouldn't work for £1, then again I'm sure you'll find someone who would

The words camel, rear end and sandstorm come to mind, but not sure you want a blog to rank for that in googleIs a pound a post me been tight?
Anyone can write a quick blog post, but if you want your blog to show in search engines with quality content you will have to pay for it. Cheap content won't do you any good business or income wise, far from it.
£10 is cheap, but you could go on the fiver website if you want to 'cheap' it.0 -
Sorry, but it sounds like you're way out of touch! My partner writes content for websites etc for £30+ an hr. If you want decent content, as the above poster states- you'll need to pay for it. In theory, a lot of people can write. But only a few people have a real handle on the English language and can write engaging content, with the proper spelling and grammar. Alongside that, knowledge of how to insert key words and being able to meet a deadline, write to fit a brief, research the content etc. It's not a small job.Minimalist

£10 is cheap, hence why I said from £10. On the days I write blog content for others I make around £100 for what takes me about 90 minutes.
I have a small network of clients, gathered from word of mouth, and I presume people like the continuity of my work, as it makes it appear as if their blog is genuinely wrote by them
Don't forget about this OP if you're paying someone to write your blog posts. Also, I would prefer to read a grammatically incorrect post from someone with passion than one from someone who is paying someone else to write a word perfect blog. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I am a copy editor for various content mills and there is no way I would edit a blog for £1, let alone write it in the first place!
I agree with previous posters that £10 is an acceptable starting figure. Remember that the blog will need to be edited to ensure that it doesn't contain any mistakes and complies with requirements such as keyword phrases and hyperlinks, unless you are lucky enough to find a writer who can produce blogs that can be published 'as is'; such a writer will be likely to expect a premium.
Of course you can find somebody to write cheaply on sites such as Fiver and PPH, but in my experience you get what you pay for.
Good luck.0 -
It depends what your blog is for. In professional industries like myself and my partner work in making your blog appear as if "it is genuinely wrote by them" would be a very bad place to start!!! You can see my point about paying for quality illustrated nice and clearly right there.
Passion is fine if blogging is a hobby, but if it's your business, as you state- you need to appear credible and professional. That means proper and correct use of the English language and knowledgeable content. I genuinely don't think you can get that from someone who doesn't know your industry. You would also want to make sure that advertising on your site is going to be an ethical idea in your industry, only you will know that.Minimalist

"genuinely wrote by them"
Really? :eek:0 -
Like Katykicker, I work pretty cheap too, but it depends on what the client wants, a quick fluffy article is cheaper than a really detailed, informative and well researched post.
If you really can't afford to pay more than £1 per article, if you head over to freelancer, you'll find plenty of people in Asia/Africa who do write blog posts for that kind of price. Just don't expect anything special, and you may find some of the linguistic styles a bit awkward. I've edited from time to time, and the urge to completely rewrite them is common.DFW - DEBT FREEEEEE!

Wow, what an informative comment. Some of us clearly aren't grammatically correct on a forum when pushed for time trying to help others. If that was all you could pick on from my post I'm obviously writing better than normal.
Still, I know what I make, in just a few hours 5 days a week, and I'm happy enough not to be greedy. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
content mills where blog posts are bashed out - say 500 words are roughly £10 i think - you can create a profile on peopleperhour and see if people wanting content get in touch - but theres lots of people on there though!0
