Lidl have some Capsicum Annuum plants for £1.69 ish?
They have plenty of little chillies on them. And look quite healthy. On the label and the side of the tub they have the diagrams to show.
Full or partial sun, Water, And a knife and fork with a cross through them.
So i assume they dont want you to eat them. I thought all these types of peppers were edible? Maybe something they spray onto them?
So are they edible or not?
Thanks.

No comment on the Lidl ones directly....
This is very common on edible plants sold with pretty fruit. The shop just doesn't know for certain what they've been sprayed with, and takes the extra caution of declaring them - effectively - "for decoration only".
All the supermarkets and DIY sheds do it... lemon bushes, bay trees, peppers, they are often classed as inedible.
I do tend to let them wash in the rain/water them well a few times before I harvest fruit and the like, just in case they were sprayed with UltraToxin2000, but then I just use them.0 -
After some googling it seems there are all derived from edible sources originally. But grown for their colour and decoration purposes and not flavour.
So they are edible but may not be a nice taste. Already tried one it it seems to have a waxy texture.
Maybe they have a coating to help them survive longer whilst they are sold?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
As I said, I can't comment on the Lidl ones directly..... But I did once make a serious mistake with some ornamental chillies....
They were on the bathroom windowsill. I was having a p. Then pain in my dangly. Severe pain. Then agony. Tears. Serious problem, I thought. I feared for any future enjoyment with Mrs DaftyDuck.... I feared amputation.....
As the tears flowed and I clutched my nether regions, I slowly realised I had pulled off the dead fruit and flowers, chucked them out of the window, and unzipped. Ten seconds later the pain flowed, so I clutched more.... To my own further detriment.
I still remember the pain, the lasting rash, the tears - of laughter, from the ever-sympathetic Mrs DaftyDuck......
Never EVER grow chillies in a bathroom. Just don't!0 -
I have some cream the Doc gave me for a pins & needles condition, made from capsicum's. Doctor said make sure you wear gloves or wash your hands several times before going to the toilet or touching sensitive body parts.
I have rubbed my eyes forgetting i had chopped chillies earlier. But never anywhere else.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
