ESA Support Group

I have been in the WRAG of ESA for several years. I was asked to fill in a renewal in January 2014 and sent this off at the start of February. Yesterday I received a letter from DWP stating that from 24th September 2014 I would be in the Support Group instead of the WRAG.
I was just wondering should this have been backdated to February when I sent in the renewal? As in should I have been given the Support rate from when I reapplied? I'm not being greedy but a lump sum would come in immensely handy to pay some bills! (If I was entitled to it)
