Am I too late to claim back excessive credit card charges?

Hi

I had some problems with a credit card some years ago, partly because of the huge charges they were adding when I got into trouble.

It made me really ill each time I had to phone or write to them, and once I had paid off everything I tried to put the whole issue out of my mind.

I feel the charges were unfair and punitive rather than reflecting their costs. Is it too late to try to reclaim some? I have very little information as I blanked it out.

How much did you work out they should be in your analysis of their costs?
    How much were they each?

The OFT set the level at £12 each as acceptable.

I just said that I had seen a TV programme about excessive charges, and got a refund 4 years after the event.

Some of the "fees" were over £25.00.

I certainly don't have a problem with paying £12 which is what another card charged me once for a missed payment when a DD went through late.

I did not do an analysis of the costs - I used the £12 as a benchmark. To analyse their costs I would need their detailed accounts for the period, which I feel is a step too far.

Go to them on the £25 charges then and say they are too high and unfair and see how you get on.

  • Thank you - I will do that.

As far as I recall those charges were imposed on at least 4 occasions within a 2 week period.

Other times over the years I had to pay something around the £12 mark, which is what I was expecting and have no issue with.

The problem is that I have very little information. I shredded all the paperwork as it was upsetting me and making me more ill.

Still, I will try. Who knows if I will get anything.

(I feel as though I was the only person who took out PPI and wasn't mis-sold as I made sure I understood all aspects at the time - did no-one else?)

If it helps Barclaycard for example have been refunding customers
all these charges (not just £12) plus interest.
