First Direct - is it instant approval?

Hi all, I've just opened a First Direct account online and I got a message saying that they needed to review my application. I didn't want to switch from Barclays completely, just to keep the FD acct for all my direct debits, so when asked whether I was going to transfer my salary in I said no. Also, I was an FD customer before, would that be a reason for this review that's needed? Do people get accepted instantly, or this is normal? Many thanks!

I know it's not what you're actually asking but you do realise there are numerous other current accounts out there paying 3-5% interest which support (require) direct debits? FD obviously won't pay out their £100 joining bonus if you're not switching, what's the appeal of going back to them?0

I like their customer support, apps, free overdraft, and mortgage offerings... I shouldn't have cancelled the account to begin with.Single mother working full-time. Mortgage slave. Credit card debt-free wannabe.0

I was accepted instantly yesterday. I also ticked "no" for would I be paying my salary in. I only really applied because I want the 6% regular saver, the FD won't be my main current account.0

Got an email from them asking to call. Apparently because I was a customer before, I was required to apply over the phone. 30 mins later the account was open and I was able to use my old log in details. Not bad. Yes I'm interested in their Regular Saver account too.
Thanks.Single mother working full-time. Mortgage slave. Credit card debt-free wannabe.0 -
I closed my 1st account over a year ago, and have decided I'm going back to them. I've got too many credit searches on my file at the moment, so am going to wait 3/6 months. Have not been with a bank that has as good customer service as first direct. Handy to know I have to phone them, and not apply online.
