Anybody else suspicious. A new poster turns up and drags up a thread that is over 18 months old so that he/she can recommend a website.

If it sounds like SPAM, looks like SPAM and smells like SPAM, then it probably is :spam:

Hi...Have you cross checked the prices with others vendors? If not, then do it. You will realize the slight difference in rates.

  • I'm in the middle of trying to choose between companies who sell and fit window blinds and who come to your home. In the dining room I'm having Venetians, either wood or metal haven't decided; in a small study just roller blinds. I am no longer able to fit blinds myself. I have had two companies round - Apollo, and a local independent one which charges a quite a lot more. Tomorrow I have a visit from Hillarys, another national chain. I live in West Yorkshire.
I did have some blinds fitted by workmen who were doing other (good) jobs but their blind fitting was less good so have opted for these all-in-one firms who both sell and fit blinds.
Will I get better quality by paying more? How did you choose and what is your experience?

There are so many firms out there ...

I was recommended 247blinds in Huddersfield by work colleague after I admired her new vertical blinds. I measured up using their guidelines but went to their showroom/office just to see the different types/thickness of slats etc.,, although they did send me out samples.

After much decision making ordered 4 which were delivered quickly at what I thought a reasonable price. I was quoted such varying amounts from different companies and my four cost me just a little over the cost of having one made by the companies that quoted me. I had them fitted by my builder and it all seemed very straight forward. Perhaps 247 could recommend a local fitter?

  • I have a 4 pane kitchen window that I had a wood slatted blind made for. I actually found John Lewis made to measure service the cheapest for me. I wanted the wider slats in a darker wood as it's such a big window.

It cost me £190 a few years back.
  • Thanks to both tillycat123 and Sally D for taking the trouble to offer your comments.
I've been persuaded by Hillarys that I'd be better with metal blinds as I want to pull them up quite often and one window is reasonably large and wooden blinds are heavier. They also take up more room at the top of the window frame when pulled up, so excluding more light through the window. I felt there was no hard sell as wooden blinds would have been more expensive. But I' m going to think about all 3 quotes over the next few days. Apollo's quote was about the same (I'd asked them about a blind for another room too). Much as I like to support local independent businesses theirs was noticeably more expensive.
Incidentally I followed Martin's :money:advice (again) on haggling - Hillary's original quote was £486, including some roller blinds, and the final quote is £350 :j so I'm pleased with myself over that. It also happens to be the price I had in mind to start with.
