No contract documents from seller

Hello and good evening
We're currently in the process of buying our first house. Mortgage approved, asking price agreed and survey completed.
I emailed our solicitor to ask for an update as we haven't heard anything since our initial appointment and was told that until the seller sends the solicitor the contract documents our file cannot progress.
I'm guessing this means the vendor has not yet appointed a solicitor yet ? (they are in a chain, we are not)
Is there anything we can do? or do we just have to wait it out?
Our offer was accepted in early August.
Many Thanks!
Tommy

Did you agree a time frame? Has seller found new property?
Best thing to do is chase sellers agent0 -

My understanding is they have put an offer in on a property but I'm unsure as to whether it has been accepted or not.
I've not had any contact with the vendor for about 6 weeks.

No time scale agreed, thanks Martin I think a call in to the estate agents this week might be in order!

When buying one of the first things to ask (the sellers - not the agents - who will tell you anything) is "Are you buying something else?"
If they say they are then you try to find out why they are moving and what kind of property they are looking to buy. Are they really motivated (new job in different area - or a very vague reason that doesn't really stack up)? Are they looking for something that will be really difficult to find - e.g. property with a granny annexe in a very specific area)?
Try to get a time scale for finding out of them - after which will they move out? Also remember that when they eventually find something their seller may mess around finding - and so on up the chain. Information flow in chains is terrible so don't rely on what people tell you!RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 -
Thanks very much Richard, I will do some digging this weekend!
I guess I was wanted to know if there was anything I could do but I'm guessing we have to wait now.
Thanks for all the replies

Your sales memo should have the details of the vendor's solicitors on there. Phone them and get an update.0

Your welcome
The EA will be keen for the sale to complete as that's when they get paid. My experience was that they were always helpful no doubt because of their vested interest0 -

Vendors solicitors won't speak to the OP as they are not their client.
Best to try and speak with the vendors direct, by knocking on the front door or contacting the EA for an update. Although the EA will have his commission as an excuse to bend the truth....."Put the kettle on Turkish, lets have a nice cup of tea.....no sugars for me.....I'm sweet enough"0
