landlord insurance goes up despite never claiming

hiya,

My renewal quote came through (2 years NCB) ..I lived at the same address previously as the owner and again, no claims.I'm happy enough with the insurance.I tried price comparison sites and it was much of a muchness. The company is "Direct Line", should I just phone them direct and say that I'll renew if they knock £20 quid off?

Can't hurt. May be helpful to have a note of the cheapest quotes you had, for ammunition.

Asking for a discount may get something but is unlikely, saying you've found a couple of slightly cheaper quotes online and what is really the best they can do may be more successful. You dont have to name names or give actual prices of cause.

Yogi do give them a ring to say that you are thinking of lapsing the policy.

You can say that you are happy with the cover and service but you have found a cheaper quote. You can tell them £20, £30 or whatever you want!

Most insurers will have a cancellations team dedicated to retaining customers so make sure you are speaking to them. They may have a bit of flexibility on the price.

If they can't do anything for you then tell them that you'll think about and look at other options.

The rebuilding cost of property has gone up by 7% in the last 12 months, so this will have something to do with the price increase, as rebuilding sums insured have increased.
