Just married with no joint account.

My partner & I have recently got married & have received a cheque written to Mr & Mrs. We haven't got a joint account due to problems with my husbands credit score, but I will be changing my accounts to my married name. Is there any way of cashing the cheque without joint accounts?

We don't have a joint account, but I always just pay cheques for Mr & Mrs Ilikewatch into my own account (Mr Ilikewatch) using a quick deposit post box in branch - they've never spotted and refused one and it means I don't have to share the dosh with the wife :)

I am sure you can just put it in your account. If your name is on it. I THINK so anyway. Just ask your bank.
    You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:

If your husband has a carp credit score DON'T tie your finances to his by getting a joint account.

Please take note of Edwardia's advice. It is very important not to let your finances become entangled!

Back to your original question, you should be able to put the cheque into your account.

ETA Do you really need to change the name on your accounts?
    . . .I did not speak out

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me..

Best bit of advice I got! We still have seperate accounts.

OP, we got a check address to Mr & Mrs, I just got the person to write it out again in my name only, although after reading the above, it looks like it would have been ok.

Bodes well for the future - for richer for poorer……..

I had a rubbish credit score and my husband very kindly shared his assets with me. I now have a much better score and his is excellent. Does not always work negatively.

We have a joint account and it did not affect his credit score.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • But if they have a mortgage then they will be tied.

I have an Aunt who sent me a cheque made out to Mr & Mrs GTS and I just asked her if she would mind writing one to either me or Mr GTS

We don't have a joint account and when we got a cheque for both of us we tried to pay it into DH's account. I asked if it was ok and they said no (probably would have gotten away with it if I hadn't pointed it out!).

Luckily his parents have a joint account so they took the cheque and gave us the cash. :)
