Black Horse - Help Required Obtaining Old Account Info

Hi All,

Hoping someone can help/advise.

When i was younger I took out credit with Black Horse for a car. From what I can remember there was PPI on this for sure. I have contacted Black Horse and they have confirmed this however they are saying that there is a second name on the account!! I cannot ever remember having anyone on this.
They have said that they will only confirm details of the account if I can either supply them with the second persons name or obtain the account number.
They have also stated that due to the account being over 6 years old that these files are now not held on computer either so a ref number or such would be of great help.

Now i know that i paid this monthly by DD so was hoping that my old bank would have this info for me. But again when i went into my old branch they told me they were unable to find ANY of my old accounts. This I found very strange!!

Question is, is there anyway that I can retrieve this old account number so I can progress with this claim?

Many thanks for your time and help.

Some dealerships keep records for vehicles they have sold. However, that would be a long shot.

Surpised that your old bank does not have your old account details. When did you make the last payment towards your car?

How old is this agreement? Your files will be archived if they are over 6 years old. Unfortunately, these were archived under "agreement number" only...so this will be the only way to trace them.

The agreement number will be next to the DD in your bank statement.

    A 2nd person could be a guarantor?

Remember also if it was before Jan 2005 chances are very high they will dismiss any complaint as pre-regulation even if they did manage to find any records

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Any mis-selling complaint must go to the seller of the insurance, not the provider. As such complaints about car Finance PPI should be addressed to the original car dealer, not Black Horse.
Anything prior to January 2005 was not regulated.
  • Some insurances were sold by Blackhorse though.

they will let you know if it needs to be referred to the dealership once they will discuss your agreement with you!

Even if the dealership sold you the PPI and is now closed. There are still ways of claiming it back but its fairly long winded.

I cannot find my account number either for this company. They said without it they are unable to locate it in their archives.

Unfortunately, when I got hold of old bank statements all that showed up was the direct debit payments to Blackhorse but not the account number itself.

If you send a SAR to your former bank and Blackhorse it might reveal the reference number and then you can go ahead with the complaint. However, they will probably reject it if sold before 2005, so you might end up referring it to the underwriter of the policy because FOS would have no jurisdiction in this case.

What I don't understand is if they can see you had ppi on their systems and you actually paid it from your own bank account, why are they refusing to give you the agreement number? This is where a SAR might help. Best of luck
