Changing BT contract

Having just moved house, my son has now a BT landline installed. He was given three options.

1st option. To pay an amount per month and pay for each call.

2nd option. To pay an amount per month and get free eve. & weekend calls.

3rd option. To pay an amount per month and get free calls 24/7.

He elected for option 3, but within 24 hrs, would like to change to option 2.

Does anyone know if this is possible?. Throughout the day, he has tried to contact BT but the line is constantly queuing.

Does anyone know of a number that gets a response?

If he can change his option ? ,you usually have to sign a contract for a certain period for Option 2/3. He probaly signed/agreed to a 12 month contract.See:

He would be better of going for Option 1 and using Primus Saver 2 for really FREE Evening and Weekend calls.

Your son should be able to downgrade his option using his rights under the [SIZE=-1]Distance Selling Directive within 7 days of ordering.

He can try calling BT on 150 (0800 800 150)

Tell him to go for BT Together Option 1 (that's the first option you mentioned) but to read the 'HERE' link in my signature below at the earliest opportunity.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

That's not strictly true when it comes to a provision of a service

It is in terms of the call tariffs
If saved £2710 and only spent the interest (Based on a return of 5%), you would have enough money to pay your TV Licence every year. Saving you £7452.50 over a period of 55 years, based on you buying a license from the age of 20 until your 75 at a cost of £135.50.

Thanks for your replies. It is now almost 9am and he has been trying to get through since 8am. Through frustration he dialled one of the other departments who said they could not help.

An alternative would be to hit the cancelation button and actually cancel, Then hit the start up new contract button. It would mean a new number (but that wouldn't matter as he hasn't given it out yet). That way he would get option 1 settled.

It would make sense to pay out as little as possible to BT ie line rental + monthly tarif. Any calls HE makes would be through one of the other providers with a prefix. It's been a while now since I used this means of making calls, but I'm sure they were either free or 1p, I must read up the links that have been provided. The thing is I'm quite satisfied with TT and my free broadband as he was, but I think he is reluctant to return to them.

If his BT line is already connected he will be under a 12 month contract. I know its annoying but the best thing to do is ring them when you havent got much to do and can hold and the advisor can change him to opt 1. Once he gets thru its a 2 minute call. HTH

Thanks, will do that. At least it's encouraging for you to say the operator will do the change. will keep you posted.
