Another vote for figs ! I mostly get my fruit & veg. from a greengrocer ( with an outdoor display ) , rather than at the supermarket . I find that it's much cheaper there . Figs are 5 for £1 today & they're large & luscious .
I'm also enjoying the British Cox's apples at the moment . Their flavour & texture is just wonderful . I got huge ones for 5 for £1-00 . They are lovely eaten together with packet ham or cottage cheese for a light lunch .0 -
Pomegranates are in season and around 30p per fruit in the Aldi or lidl shops.
as said, figs are 25p each.
bananas are always cheap.
I like Persimmons - discovered them last year and they are the most delicious fruit I have ever tasted!
mangoes available all year round.
fresh dates are a delight - but can be expensive. dried dates can be bought cheaply in Health food stores - as can dried Apricots, apple rings, and tropical fruit mix. and I have seen huge bags of dates etc in Poundshops. and they don't taste any different to the dearer ones in supermarkets.0 -
What about tinned fruit in juice instead of syrup.0

I buy these from Aldi frozen but delicious and cheap.

Can I chip in about finding an Asian grocer? There's a whole subcontient of fruits you won't find in the major supermarkets to experiment with.
If you can get to a Chinese supermarket/wholesaler, they may have dried friuts with spices your palate hasn't met before too.
Have fun!0 -
I tried figs for the first time this Summer and was pleasantly surprised they were sweet and tasty... I'm still picking a bowlful of raspberries from the garden ever day at the moment though. How about melon chopped up with mangoes.
I came to recommend figs too - they're currently 20p each in Lidl.
I've been eating lots of melons and pineapple recently (alongside bananas, apples and grapes).
I also recently tried watermelon plums - they're so tasty and they're PINK!

Thank you everyone

I don't buy tinned fruits as I often like to take them out with me as a snack or take to work...so it can become difficult and I may look a bit odd eating them out of a tin as I walk into town ;P
I don't like figs
I got some reduced from tesco a few weeks ago to try...I like them dried but not fresh...eek
I have never tried sharon fruit, but willing to give it a go. Is there any other fruit it is like?
I am so gutted that blueberry prices have soared...:(0 -
