Do we now have to accept returns on eBay?

I sold an item that clearly stated in the title it was an NTSC format game and now the buyer wants to return it because it doesn't play on his PAL machine. He says I should have said it won't play on English machines. I think I was clear enough.

He opened a return. I don't understand why I am obliged to accept it back because he can't read? Or why I am forced to pay his return postage? I can't get through to eBay on the phone (been holding for over an hr now) and their chat feature is down.

But, it's not like a case (which is how I've previously dealt with returns) where I can leave a comment to state my side of the picture. I am starting to really hate eBay. It seems I am powerless against these idiots who can't or won't read.

Can anyone help, thanks?

Private seller, just trying to sell some an old games system and associated games to clear some space in the loft and buy a new one.

eBay have this new 'returns' system for private sellers too. It DOES NOT in any way make it clear, that you have an option to wait 8 days for eBay to intervene and that you don't have to choose one of the 3 options. This info I had to find out after holding for over an hour on the phone, to speak to someone at eBay.

The buyer has also lied and said that there is something wrong with the game, so I have to pay his return postage. I have sent a message (which I have no idea whether eBay will ever read, as it's not like the case system) and said there is nothing 'wrong' with the game- he has the wrong region code on his system!

I think if this is the way eBay has gone, I will just stop using it altogether.

thats why he is claiming the game is faulty, so he gets free return post.

I have stopped selling (and buying much much less) on ebay, because I do not accept the fact the private sellers should pay for returns for buyers mistakes like this & I think private sellers being exposed to paypal claims for 180 days is too much risk, Im not letting buyer use something for 6 months then get thier money back :rotfl:

Iv moved most of my buying to amazon (all of my regular ebay sellers sell there) and I now get rid of stuff in other ways with non of the ebay hassel :D

I'm hoping my refusal will force eBay to send him a free post paid return label, as they have done that for me before.

I agree, after this clear out- I'm moving to other selling channels. I already sell most books, CDs and DVDs via other methods. It's just that these games were for quite an old machine, so not many of my other methods would accept them. 180 days is crazy isn't it, if you bought something in a shop you normally only have 28 days to return it.

I now know how shops feel when they get idiots returning stuff cos they didn't read the label!!!
