No wonder Tesco have a reputation for sharp parctices

I went to Tesco for some groceries on Monday last and came out with a receipt that told me that my accumulated fuel savings amounted to 9p per litre (to be used by the end of October.)

This (Wednesday) morning I returned for other groceries and noted on the way in that petrol had been reduced by 1p per litre (126.9 to 125.9).

When I had bought my groceries, my new receipt showed that I now only have 8p per litre in fuel savings.

I have not returned any items or had any reason for my total accumulated spend to be reduced so can only assume that when Tesco reduce their pump prices they also reduce the value of their customers' fuel credits to compensate.

Come on Tesco - we are not all as stupid as you seem to think .....

I think these fuel "savings" come under the heading "Confuse-a-Consumer". I have yet to fathom how it works, specially considering that my till receipt last week said I had 4p per litre that would expire on 30th September, and a further 2p per litre that would expire on 31st October; but when I sent my DH for fuel, armed with my Clubcard, they said there was no discount allowable. Go figure..... :(

Nope.. the receipt you got TODAY will be for this months anything before that will have been removed.. so that 1p that has gone missing was probably from weeks ago and just expired.

No, I used all my allowance by the end of last month and started afresh this month at zero as I always do.

I still have Monday's receipt and it says 9 pence to be used by 31 October whereas today's says 8 pence, also to be used by 31 October.

Tesco have definitely docked me one pence and it surely is not a coincidence that it happened on the day they reduced the pump price by the same amount.

Can anyone confirm a similar experience?

Maybe you should put petrol in more frequently, to both gain the fuel save benefit and for the economic benefit of not driving around with a full tank of fuel?
Have to admit that I have gained greatly from this, as I do 250 miles a week just commuting, and spending £180/m on fuel on top of our groceries gives me up to 15 per litre savings.

Monday was still September, I'll lay odds that there was an odd penny from a month or two ago that was included in Septembers discount that expired yesterday. It's happened to me in the past.

    If I accumulate 4p saving and buy 20 litres, I save 80p. If I do that twice a month, I save £1.60.

Alternatively, if I wait to accumulate 8p and then buy my 40 litres in a single purchase, I save £3.20 for the same outlay at the grocery checkout.

But the point I was making in this thread is that Tescos have funded part of their price cut by docking me and, I suspect, everyone else 1p off their fuel save promotion.

Do you think that if the price goes up 1p they will give us all the penny back on our savings?

Sorry, I think you have just miscalculated rather than a major conspiracy on Tesco's behalf.

We had 2p a litre petrol saving on our grocery shop(don't spend much as there are only two of us and there is an Aldi along the same road). When I went to pay for our £50 petrol bill I was told there was no savings on my a/c. Checked my previous bill when I got home and it stated the 2p was allowed until the end of the month. I didn't complain because Tesco are always "right". I am also sick of complaing that several of the prices are not shown on the shelves(for week and weeks - I always get a price check now before I let the unpriced items go through on my bill) Nothing is ever done about it.
I find it strange that all the items in question are Value ones. A trick to make me choose the priced, more expensive brands? I wonder ?

Maybe you filed up the car using the balance then bought more stuff adding the extra 1p which has now expired.

I think you are being a bit OTT for the sake of 1p.. We just had the full 20p expire on ours on the 30th September.

The fuel discount can only be used in 2p increments. The 1p increments shown on your receipts are only to show how you are doing, the 1p means you only need to spend up to another £25 to get the next 2p spendable amount. At the end of the month that 1p will be removed to show your actual available discount.
