Just discovered this after years of owning a compost canister.
If you just put a small amount of water in the bottom, when you throw in your bits, they don't stick to the bottom and you can throw the contents onto your compost heap and left with clean canister to.start.again.

Or you can use some newspaper.0

And an added benefit of using newspaper is that when you tip everything into the compost bin the paper helps to maintain the correct carbon/nitrogen balance in the heap.0

Take your point but do like the water trick better. Quicker and some people may not have newspaper to spare but everyone has water.
Must admit our canister was getting decidedly mucky (hubby's fault not mine, that's his job to empty it) but now after a few weeks of this it is sparkling clean in there.0
