Some Middle East airlines have on board nannies.

    Check Qantas and Emirates websites.

If you definitely want to stop in Dubai on the way back then you will be limited in stopover options anywhere other than Dubai on the way out unless you're prepared to pay for single flights in each direction, which I would expect on UK - Sydney to be considerably more expensive than a return ticket.

Where in the UK are you/can you fly from?

Regional departures may bring up different recommendations than others.

    I've been Money Tipped!
We are in Australia at the moment, just coming towards the end of a months holiday. We booked all legs of the journey through the Singapore Airlines website. You can just choose how you want to fly. We decided not to do a stopover on the way over, as we just wanted to get there as soon as possible, so just had a three hour stop at Singapore Airport. We flew to Brisbane, and we are flying out of Sydney, stopping at Singapore for a couple of days. My eldest son did something similar with Cathay Pacific, stopping over in Hong Kong. So, you don't need an agent to put it together for you. Just book with Emirates who fly via Dubai, and as already noted, it will be cheaper to do a return with the same airline. As for Singapore being boring, well, if it is, at least I can drop into Raffles for a Singapore Sling, and no I don't care how much it costs!

IMO a 2 day stopover in Singapore works well.
There is certainly sufficient to do and see in Singapore for more than two days and although it is more expensive than most places you won't break any bank with the extra cost over places like HK or KL.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

Our specially trained Flying Nannies have been approved by Norland, the UK’s renowned childcare training college for early years professionals. They’re here to provide an extra pair of hands – whether it’s helping to get the children settled for bed, keeping them entertained or simply offering advice and support to parents.

I just wish airlines had a separate childrens' cabin/crèche.

Flying nannies sounds like a great idea. Totally agree re the separate cabin or creche though. I just hope they kind of entertain each other!

Hubby said last night he isn't bothered about stopping on the way out as he just wants to get there, so I will look at the various airlines options.

I'm wondering whether to forget Dubai for now and see the family for a separate holiday later on in the year. Everything is very flexible except the need to be in Sydney for easter weekend!

I'm very grateful for all the suggestions and I have a few different options to look into which is great as I just didn't know where to start!

Some A330 and A340 aircraft have 2-3-2 seating towards the rear, not sure if that would be better for the 5 of you.

  • I'm a bit late to this post but...

avoid Etihad at all costs. The customer service is absolutely appalling, seriously. Had to raise a complaint about duty of care as my sister in law was left in Abu Dhabi overnight (due to Etihads flight being delayed from Heathrow) and nobody from Etihad took the slightest bit of notice or did anything to help...and this was for single female travelling on her own.

Etihad have even withdrawn from Skytrax (the independent flight reviewer) so you can't even leave a review for or against them.

I would pay a little more and go Qauntas / Emirates etc....on a long haul flight like that you really don't want to be left high and dry with no customer service..
