Bricklaying quote

I need to get a garden wall rebuilt - does a quote of £1500 + VAT for the following seem reasonable? It's "labour only" because I've cleaned up most of the old bricks to be re-used and will buy the few extra bricks needed, no demolition of the old wall needed.

It's a 9m long single brick wall with two piers and an angled joint to another wall at one end - area 20sqm approx, no re-laying of foundations needed - the existing ones are Ok. Location is in the southeast between London and the south coast.

Seems expensive compared to what I paid last year for new foundations for a wall slightly longer, with more peers, tied into house etc and with new bricks! I'm in S Wales though!

It does seem expensive, but I reckon you must have got a really good deal. Bricks are expensive now, and that's more than a thousand bricks (though mine is 1.8m tall - I suspect yours may be a lower wall?).

Was yours broken down at all into labour and materials?

Nope, a guy and his labourer did it on a Sat and Sun - bricks were from a trade supplier. Pics below to see what we got..... trellis up etc by little brick wall now :)

Hmm... I'd guesstimate yours is maybe about the same number of bricks as mine (yours is partly lower, but longer), so I guess that's at least £800 in materials (down here), depending on what bricks they used.

So you paid maybe £600 in labour? Seems like pretty good value for four mandays of work. People don't seem to want the work so much around here...

I don't think I mentioned the cost above. I think the cost was £1500 in total (no VAT) and I've just had a look, I ebanked the bricky £800 for materials, so we are looking at £700 for two people for two days, plus a few hours the night before laying the foundations. (I cleared the old wall away down to the bottom)

PS. The bricks were from the trade part of B and Q, he bought a few as samples so we could match as similar as possible to the original brick at the rear. I also paid x amount for black die to darken the mortar. HTH :)
