Quickquid advice?

Hi there, wondered if someone could help me as I'm in a bit of a pickle.

I have a Quickquid FlexCredit debt of £839.08. I have been a customer of theirs for over a year and have never missed a payment- however lately my financial situation has changed and I am now in default.

I have emailed them offering them £50 a month but they haven't responded, I just wondered how much luck anyone else had with setting up a re-payment plan with them?

My financial situation looks set to change again for the better in the next few months in which case I could increase the payments, but this side of Christmas there is just no way I can afford what they are asking.

I have cancelled all direct debits, and they don't have my card details (I set up my account with them in my maiden name and have got married since then so they don't have any current card details or even my actual name!)

I was tempted to just not pay them and see what happens as I know that the law is more on my side than theirs- however I don't feel like that's the sensible thing to do.

They call and email a lot about the amount I owe and every time I say I've emailed to set up a payment plan they just say I need to pay what I owe.

Can anyone help me or advise? I'd love nothing more than to get rid of them and never have to deal with a payday loan again!

If you don't pay them what makes the law on your side??
  • By the way, if you don't pay them at all all that will happen is that your debt will get sold to a debt collection company as per any other bill. You are no less obliged to repay them than anybody else.

    Hi,

I'm guessing when you say the law is on your side more than theirs you mean they should be working with you to come to some sort of payment arrangement... Not paying will as others have said just mean this gets sold on to a DCA who will hound you instead.

Call them and come to some sort off agreement but if they don't accept then I suggest you contact a debt charity for further advice...

That said, if you're using Payday loans then I'm guessing you have more debt in which case I recommend that you post something over on the Debt Free Wannabe forum and contact a debt charity asap (I personally recommend Step Change) to come to some sort of overall debt resolution as opposed to just continue paddling...

  • Wow, we're a judgemental bunch aren't we?! I put off posting here for a while because I noticed the holier-than-thou brigade seem to enjoy swooping in and saying I told you so- appears I was correct.

Monkeyballs is correct in saying I meant in terms of setting up a payment plan- I have every intention of paying them back in full, I just can't afford to do it on their terms.

It's no wonder people bury their head in the sand about debt if they feel this is the reaction they'll get (not just on my thread but other people's).

Oh and I don't have any other debt whatsoever, I don't even have an overdraft.

    Hi Habssac,

Believe it or not, I think the slightly less positive sounding responses were intended as informative rather than critical as you'll rarely find criticism on the Debt Free Wannabe forum.

That said, if someone sounds like they're trying to duck their debt rather than deal with it then it does raise a few eyebrows lol, don't take it the wrong way :) if this forum was filled by the same "helpful" sort that you get on the Credit Card, Loans and Credit Fie & Ratings forums then I'd have not put half of what I have done over the last couple of years...

    Hi Habssac,

It sounds like the business aren't being very helpful.

If you have tried to set up a payment plan with Quickquid, we would expect them to…

    -acknowledge your request
    -freeze the interest and charges
    -discuss repayment options with you

Really, the business should discuss your situation and help you as much as they can.

Ignoring the situation and avoiding paying can make matters worse. It’s best to be upfront with the business and be as honest as possible – but we know that can be difficult if they’re not getting back to you.

Have you tried giving them a call? Their number is 0808 234 4558. (taken from their website). If you’re still having trouble, send us an email with your details to paydayhelp@financial-ombudsman.org.uk and we can get in touch with it to find out why it hasn’t responded to you and see what it can do to help.

    Kind Regards,

    Amy

  • Hi Amy,

Thank you for your helpful response.

They have emailed me today saying they will send me a form where I can give them details of my outgoings so they can work out what I should pay them. What I have offered is all I can afford so hopefully they will agree. They have said they will freeze interest for 7 days to give me time to get the form back to them and arrange the payment plan.

YOU tell THEM what YOU can afford, not what they WANT you to pay.

Best to do it all via the post, rather than phone/email.
