My old petrol mower has just died. Pretty sure its terminal or at least not worth spending money on as its 20 years old and was left for us by the previous owners of the house anyway...

So I need to get a new one. What would people recommend for a fairly large garden? I'd say the area is 300sqm ish but lots of fiddly bits

Definitely don't want a cord and the battery powered ones sound ideal if they are any good - for example the Bosch Rotak. As stated there are lots of fiddly bits so would need the battery to last half an hour or so

Thanks!

  • Hi I have a bosch battery one which I have had for the last two years. It takes me about 40 minutes to do my lawns and the battery nearly lasts the entire time. I ordered two batteries so I can just put another one in to finish off. We had an old petrol one which I struggled to start so this one has been ideal. Hope this helps.

Strongly suspect you will need a petrol one if you want it to last another 20y. Easy start systems work very well. I would get a honda or hayter.

Thanks, leaning towards another petrol one I think.

get a petrol mower with alloy body (will not rust) and a roller on the back, best 1 I had was a mountfield, others I had just had wheels at the back and lawn has never look as good as it did with the old one with a roller
get the biggest one that will go in to your fiddy bits, I used a 16" one in my garden for a time took ages to cut grass, went bay to 20" cut it was a lot quicker
