finances as an international student

Hi There, my son wishes to attend Uni in the USA making him an international student. To get a student loan in the states you need an american co signer and we don't know anyone in the states. You cannot get a student loan in the UK to study in the states. He can apply for scholarships but does anyone have any other ideas on what he can do to help fund his studies. Even with a scholarship we are looking at £15000 a year for four years.
I hope someone has an answer
Thanks in advance

I think he needs to rethink his plans, for the reasons that you have discovered (and many more).
If he is going to need a student loan then study in the UK would make sense: otherwise he should look at studying elsewhere in the EU (tuition fees are nominal or nil in most EU countries, and study there carries the bonus of learning a foreign language and learning the culture of a more advanced civilisation). In any case, there may be opportunities to spend a year in the USA as part of a degree course offered by a European university.0 -
Thank you, although I find your reply negative. I am looking for ways to help him possibly and not stop him achieving his dream.
The opportunities in the USA are outstanding and if I can help him achieve his goal, I will.
Thanks again0 -
If he really wants to pursue outstanding opportunities, he should learn Chinese. On the whole the USA has peaked...
Many universities in the USA are mediocre or worse, although a few do indeed lead the world. To experience the best that these outstanding universities have to offer he should go there as a graduate student. For someone doing a first degree, the student experience at a good university in the UK or parts of Europe is likely to prove superior to anything available in the USA.
