Seems to me that someone is trying to rubbish Foxtons. Do you work for an agent that operates in the same area?
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.
  • In an open market, the buyer of a service is free to choose whether to buy the service. If you don't think the service is good value for money, find someone else to do it, or do it yourself. It's not a difficult concept.
The problem is that landlords are the ones in an open market.
Tenants suffer higher prices without having a say.

And in any case... in an open market I am still allowed to show some numbers so landlords can take better decisions (save money... this is MoneySavingExpert).

I am trying to rubbish every single letting agency.
Some agencies have nice offices? Who cares? Tenants look for properties in Zoopla and RightMove, they don't need to put a foot in any office.

OK, you actually need to go to the agencies offices... because they usually show the properties before publishing them in Internet. Something that they only do in its own benefit. Again, we would be better without them.

I am suggesting to landlords to simply go to any cheap online agency that let's them list their propery in Zoopla, RightMove, etc. It's better for everybody (except agencies).
Zoopla not letting private landlords to announce is another "Wrong(TM)" thing.

Also, landlords aren't permitted to view prospective tenants credit reports, not even us estate agents don't see them. We only know if they have CCJ's or are bankrupt

Seriously? Some agencies take *big* fees for "credit checks"... I would have expected them to actually be able to evaluate the risk in some detail.

OK, I edited it to be more generic.

Yup, we can only see public information, not permitted to view their payment history, any defaults or amount of debt owing (if any).
  • I'm about to rent a property in Derby, as I have a 12 month contract there and hate B&B's. I'll let you know how I get on. But I guess Foxtons don't go that far North ?

Do you mean you recommend tenants solely on the basis of these credit checks?

You don't take up employers references, you don't take up references from (two) previous landlords?

How is your client to know the situation if you don't - or do you advise landlord to do it himself?
