Humax 9300T (Freeview Box)

I've had my Humax 9300T Freeview Box (320Gb HD) for about 5yrs.

It was working fine last night but tonight it's dead, it won't turn on and the display is blank (no power).

It's not so much that it's packup but there were programs I've recorded over the years that I wanted to keep. So is there a (very simple) way to copy the programs on the Humax HD onto an external drive (of some sort) and more importantly be able to watch them some how?

Thanks

I wouldn't have thought it would be very simple if there's no power in the box, as that means you can't just plug in an external drive and copy files. I expect you'll either need to get the box repaired, or remove its hard drive and put it in an external caddy so it can be read from a computer.

I was thinking of an external caddy, but it's how to watch the program off that or would you have to copy it to a USB stick and plug that into whichever new box I buy.....
  • however the file system used is not windows compatible
  • I would have thought (well ok guessed) the internal disk will be ext2/3 and so you will need extfs support on your windows box or a linux live iso or o/s. Plus if your files are HD then they are probably encrypted, I would try avforums as another port of call.

  • My guess would be that the power supply has failed and would probably be repairable. Try a local independent TV shop.

    I presume you've checked the obvious ...

    Fuse in plug blown?

Small power switch on the back panel still in the 'on' position?

You could of course buy a 9300T second-hand on eBay and swap the hard drives over.

The hard drive isn't in ext3 format, it's in some weird format known only to itself. There are suites of software to extract the files, but they aren't maintained anymore and you might need to get an older version of Windows or Linux running under virtualisation to make them work well. I've checked the fuse, plug, switch on the back etc. and still won't work.

Think it's a case of a new Humax Box (HDR-2000T) and try to copy the programs off the old Hard Drive onto a USB Stick via humaxrw. I have access to a laptop with XP on it so hope I can sort something that way....
