in Credit cards
I have recently been refused re-issue of a credit card by a company. When telephoned their reason was because I opened an account with a Turf accountant to place a £5 bet on the Grand national (incidently I won £108.12 which went back onto my credit card and I havn't used the account since) Also it was 'really bad' that I used my card to pay for my weekly shopping!
This is dispite that fact that I have never used all my credit limit which they gave me due to fact that I had been with them for so long and was 'such a good customer' (£10,100), that I have never defaulted on a payment, or been late and that I pay off my balance every month. There comment on this was 'things change'!!!
Has anyone else been treated this way? Am I being over sensitive? My feeling is that they don't like the fact that I am using the 28days free credit that they offer anyway and so are not making any money from me. In which case why not just be descent like I have with them.
By they tell me that they havn't closed my account but won't be issuing a card until I close my account with the turf accountant.

Hello charlotteclaw
Welcome to the MSE site.
I'll move your thread to the 'Credit Cards' board.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

What card was it ? Name & Shame...Not even wrong0

it's coz u're not making them any money! who is it??0

There's obviously more to this than your first post states. Care to elaborate a little further ?
Nobody has a right to any card, but for a card company to actually give you a reason other than stating 'because of details held on your credit reference' is almost unheard of, so it doesn't add up.
What type of card gives you 28 days free credit ? I've had most cards and none have given 28. Most c/cards give between 40-56 days free credit. Tens of thousands pay their balances in full each month without problems so it won't be that.0 -

Ok, you should close this account down.
Also it was 'really bad' that I used my card to pay for my weekly shopping!
Did you get the persons name and extension? I take it it was someone who didn't have a clue about what they were talking about. You should ask them if they are a qualified adviser within the company and question this, as no one could argue that it was really bad to do this. Were these the exact words or did they say it was really bad to pay off in full?

I would have deffinately got their name and extension number for comments like this! You can still complain, as the conversation would have been recorded. Its discusting that they have the ordasity to say things like that to someone like yourself, who obviously is being responsible and makes a concious effort to build up your credit score.

I wouldnt give into these bully tactics. What company was it? I have had dealings with several companies so I might be able to help. This is completely unacceptable. Please see my thread SAY NO TO COMPUTER SAYS NO as I would like to raise awareness for things such as this.
Also what benefits does this card offer you? with your credit rating I will be able to give you some pointers on cards that will be better for your needs, youll probably find the one your trying to get isnt that good.
Name and Shame, people will be able to help youINCREASE INTEREST ON SAVINGS!
...I will thank you if youve been helpful, please do the same! :j0 -

This is right. Also whenever you use your card the shops pay a merchants fee (hense the minimum spend in many places) which the credit cards get, so it isnt as if you should feel second rate for paying off in full, quite the contaryINCREASE INTEREST ON SAVINGS!

For what? For taking a business decision not to continue to extend a £10K credit line to someone who hasn't used the facility for four months.Stephen_Leak wrote: »Report the matter to the Financial Ombudsman.
Won't the card company just say they were carrying out a widespread freeing up of available credit in order to service other customers' needs?
Just out of interest, I wonder if the (possible?) £100 positive balance from the 'win' on the account was the 'trigger' for the computer review?0 -

Whilst I appreciate that the CCC involved has every right to do business (or not, as the case may be) with whoever they chose, the reasons given in this case do seem (to me, at least) to be illogical and worthy of independent scrutiny. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.
