recently took out a barclaycard and transferred a balance. set up internet banking made a payment and then set up a direct debit for the next month... all going well.
received a dd letter. date which funds go out wasn't convenient so i cancelled over the phone and asked to set up another thats just after pay day. all going well.
pay day comes again so i log on to internet banking to find no dd set up and a "payment overdue symbol" ?? ring them obviously but the guy was hard to understand. apparently i made a payment a day before the "statement date" and have now missed the "payment date". ??? so the funds i transferred over don't count? although its in the same month. only had the card a month hows this possible? the direct debit is now set up again but for the next month and i have had to make another payment for this month (late apparently) so i don't get bad credit... am i missing something here is there a purgatory period between a previous payment date and the next statement being generated? because i feel a bit miffed. the guy said i need to call next month to see if the charge can be waived... joke

Only payments made between the day the statement is issued and the payment date will count towards the minimum payment for that statement, though you can of course make additional payments at any time. Any extra payments made during this time will reduce the dd amount. Barclaycard also count refunds during this period as payments.0

If you make a payment before your statement is generated, then you're not contributing a payment to the statement's due amount.
Phone up again and explain that it was a genuine misunderstanding, they'll probably be willing to waive the charge. Just make sure you get your direct debit set up to pay it in full in the future.Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.
ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.0
