Light fitting misbehaving

Hi, hope someone can help. I decided in my wisdom to shorten the cable on my ceiling light fitting as it was too long. However after numerous attempts, including buying a new cable I am unable to get the light to work. The cable is correctly wired and the bulb is also working but it simply will not work? I haven't changed anything else so cannot imagine what is going on. I also have not touched or removed the original fitting and simply replaced the hanging cable. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Oh nuts ive worked it out, it appears that one of those tiny screws that connects the wires the lighting circuit has disappeared so one of the connections isn't connected! Looks like Im on the look out for those tiny screws! doh!0

You'll probably need a new ceiling rose. The terminal screws aren't standard and aren't sold separately.
Or put the flex wire in the same hole as the corresponding cable wire.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
