Hi there,
I hope this is the right part of the forum to post this issue.
I have moved out and I put EDF on notice that I will be cancelling my direct debit
for £45 a month.
I was living in a two bedroom flat.
I moved in March 2012. So I have requested a full breakdown of electricity used from then to date (moving out). I have yet to receive a response.
I cant believe that I have been so naive to pay £45 direct debit for so long and not even question the bills, for example maybe 3 months I have been away and not even present in the flat, but still paying the £45 regardless.
What I want to get to the bottom of is whether they owe me money as I must have overpaid
surely. (I imagine this happens alot, as direct debit seems to be the preferred method of payment with all companies)
Anyhow to top it off having sent my letter cancelling my account, EDF customer service advisor has now sent me an email stating I owe £100 for the half year bill, which I find incredible:
A) this request for £100 is not even a bill just an email
I have already paid around £350 for half a year through direct debit
C) the email says pay within 14 days.
D) EDF have yet to respond to my letter asking for a full breakdown.
Is it me or is it a nightmare dealing with this company?
Please help!
I hope this is the right part of the forum to post this issue.

How many units have you used in that time, have you submitted monthly meter readings to them, have you worked it out for you self, did you check on line for bills, did you check any bills received used correct figures ?
It would seem that you have contributed to this by not proactively managing your account in the past.0 -
Is your EDF user account still open .If it is then use that to check your usage . If it has now been closed then all you can do is pay up unless you have meter readings to prove its a wrong bill .
As to overpaid that with no evidence is just a wild guess .0 -
It is you Im afraid, £45 a month is chicken feed for electricity which equates to £540 a year.
I pay around £840 a year actual usage for electricity, I cant see where you are coming from.
6 months (half a year) at £45 does not add up to £350 It adds up to £270.
You aren't very good at this are you......make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
My electric bill personal projection for the next 12 months is £385.79, I live in a 3 bed semi with all the mod cons, except a dishwasher and I pay £36.00 a month for my electric with EDF.
£36 a monththat's chicken feed
You need to help yourself, don't people take their own readings and keep records???
I was with NPower back in 2012, received a cheque for £0.28 recently Banked it and logged into my closed account - it was showing as £0.28 owing. I had complained to NPower in the past so reopened my complaint and received a credit for £25.28. A cheque is on the way for £25.00 another Ex Gratia payment. Always email your complaints and insist on an email response and keep a record. l've had £75.00  by way of Ex Gratia payments from NPower and maybe more to come? Log into your old accounts and check your account status, and always leave an audit trail with complaints, it pays :wall:0 -

Why "must" you have overpaid?
You seem to have no idea of your usage.0 -
It's not clear from your post that on the day you actually moved out, you contacted EDF and gave them the meter readings on that day - If you didn't, do it now.
As others have said £45 a month is pretty light for an all-electric dwelling, but that is only the trend and some customers dwellings can give cheap bills.
You are right - You are entitled to a fully detailed Final Bill showing dates, the final meter reading and price details - If you did contact them on the day you moved out to tell them you were doing so, send then an Email headed Complaint about the lack of a Final Bill0
