Benefits entitlement

Hi,

I have been on Income Related Employment Support Allowance (with support group component) for around a year and a half after being diagnosed with Agoraphobia, Depression and Anxiety. I live alone and have no real support network where I Live. My illnesses not only severely hinders my mobility as I struggle greatly with being outside, as I have no real support network, I rely heavily on my benefits to be able to travel to and from hospital and doctors appointments and should there be a need for me to have to travel outside my home.

After talking to friend who is disabled, it was felt that there could be other benefits I could be entitled to. However after contacting the DWP, who were less than forthcoming and looking into this on government websites I could not make head nor tails of it.

I am therefore enquiring if anyone is aware of any further benefits I could be entitled to. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Are you getting HB and CT support?

You could have a look at Personal Independence Payment which is not means tested and is awarded for care and/or mobility needs.

Many DWP staff are trained on one or two benefits only and don't have encyclopaedic knowledge of the entire benefit system. They will naturally be cautious of giving advice which may be either misleading or plain wrong. Most people will be pointed in the direction of GOV.UK or their local Citizens Advice for wider information.
