Credit Rating and maiden name??

I've just done a credit check on Noddle.co.uk as we are going to be applying for a mortgage soon, and I wanted to make sure we were in a good position. We've have an Agreement in Principle, so I don't think there should be a problem.

It gave me quite a low rating, which to be honest I was kind of expecting as I've got a bit of debt, plus we moved house recently (in rented at the moment) and I've not updated us on the Electoral Role yet.

But, there was quite a few accounts that didn't show up on the report. Like a credit card with Barclaycard. The only reason I can think that this wouldn't show up was because the account is in my maiden name? Noddle didn't ask at any point in the registration for a maiden name. And there's no linked names on the report. I've also got 2 cars in my name - one in my maiden name, and one in my married name and only the married name account showed on the report.

Is Noddle just rubbish or do I need to do something about this?? I reckon my maiden name credit rating might be pretty good as I've had various store cards and accounts etc in the past and paid them on time, no missed payments etc.

Also, I've not updated my name on my current account at the bank yet... will that affect it?

A more likely explanation may be whether Barclaycard report to Noddle or not.

Does it appear on your other files?

My BarclayCard shows up on Noddle.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.
  • I'm tempted to sign up to Noddle again using my maiden name and see what happens... would that affect anything?

Noddle always give me a 1 or 2 out of 5 for their rating mechanism. With the exception of MBNA, who always decline me, I've never not been accepted for any credit applied for and never been given a limit of less than £7,500 even at the height of the financial crisis.

Whilst I dont have a maiden name I have several accounts missing on Noddle and indeed they still show my old address with my new address currently being shown only as a linked address not my actual address despite moving here in May and being on the electrol roll since Jun (also not on Noddle).

Its a free service so you cannot complain too much but I dont put any weight in the completeness of noddle.

If you want to check properly then use Experian or Equifax with either their free trial (remember to cancel though!!) or a £2 statutory report if you;ve already used the free trial up. You;re only looking at data quality/ completeness/ accuracy not what random score they apply which is irrelevant to mortgages
