Hi Guys,

Does anyone know if Nationwide decide their lending decisions based on internal scores? I have a £2150 OD but they won't give me a credit card, even with a £500 limit! :/

On the soft search, for some cards I get 17.9% then others 19.9% :s

Do you think it would be beneficial to go into a branch and speak to someone?

Cheers :)

To the best of my knowledge all lenders base their decisions on all the facts they have to hand, i.e. not just what they're advised by the CRAs. You could ask them for the reason you were declined but it's unlikely to be a particularly illuminating answer - it's also unlikely that branch staff would say or do anything different....

Yeah true, I didn't know if they'd be able to discuss in more detail at the branch.

    Thanks for your reply :)

HSBC Have discussed my internal score with me before in-branch, but apparently they're not supposed to...
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

It's funny, the past 2 years I have around £1700 a month go through the account, never been overdrawn or had a bounced DD etc.. Oh well, guess I'll wait until an offer pops up in my Internet Banking!

If you don't mind me asking what are your current debt levels vs Salary?

What is your credit history like?

    Edit:

Long story short, I got a CCJ back in August 2008 from Orange for £308, and 5 years and 10 months on it remains unpaid. What happens after the 6 years is up, does the court or Orange take me back to court?

no CCJ, one default with 10 months left on report, debt to salary ratio 6%.. Even when I had my CCJ, I had the overdraft.

I would of thought the credit card decline is something to do with your credit report.

I understand you have had a OD for some time, but you already have credit cards with other lenders, maybe in the eyes of Nationwide this is enough for the time being.

Maybe, but what if I wanted to do a balance transfer?, they don't ask you before they do a credit search!

The fact that you wish to balance transfer, does not have any bearing on the application if Nationwide do not want to offer you a credit card.
