Term Time Only Nursery and Tax Credits

Morning,

Quick question on behalf of my sister and my BIL and their tax credit claim. She is a term time only worker with a child in a term time only nursery, he works full time. She wants to inform tax credits to see if she will be entitled to any extra help. How do you work out the hours attending nursery for term time only workers please?

Many thanks.

  • Does she want childcare only in term time or all year around?

  • She only has a place in Nursery during term time and pays a different amount each month depending on school holidays.

    Thanks.
  • The best way to do this is to add up the total spent on childcare over the whole year and then divide by 52 to get a weekly total, this is then gives you an average figure to give to hmrc.

I don't know about tax credits as I don't claim but to budget my out of schools I take the weekly amount I pay x 39 (school weeks) then divide by 12. That's how much I need in vouchers.
