Hi,
my 'back up' is set for once a week on a Sunday (would this still back up if the computer is no on ?), but comes on every time I turn on, slowing things down. It eventually stops of its own accord and a message appears on the task bar that it has.
Have looked (msconfig) at what is on the start up menu, and back up does NOT show as being set to run at every start up.
Confused. Any reason for this (not my confusion !), or ideas to stop ? Thanks

Your computer will only back-up when switched on.
You don't say which operating system you use but to change back-up settings on Vista for instance :
To change automatic backups- Open Backup and Restore Center by clicking the Start button
, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Backup and Restore Center. - Click Change settings.
- Click Change backup settings, and then follow the steps in the wizard.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
0 - Open Backup and Restore Center by clicking the Start button

The PC needs to be on and running for the backup to start.
So if the backup is set to run every 7pm on a Sunday and the PC is OFF at 7pm on a Sunday then the backup will automatically start the next time the PC is on.
Best option is to set the backup to run at a Time and a Day you know the PC will be on and no one using it much.
Or Run it manually once a week.Laters
