Late payments

Hi All.

I've trawled through various sections but can t find a definitive answer:

I hit a blip with my credit agreements in 2012, which resulted in several late payment to 3 of my lenders - Shop direct (Very), MBNA & Eon. The Eon situation is particularity galling as I was in dispute with them over billing and they've recorded the following:

June 2012 - up to date,
July 2012 - 6 payments behind
August 2012 - Unrecorded
September 2012 - up to date.

Since July 2012 all of my accounts have been up to date. My electoral information is up to date and my current rating on Equifax is 333.

My question is - How long before these late payments stop affecting my rating? Do I have to wait the whole 6 years?

Many thanks, in advance.

  • Yes, they stay for 6 years but do less damage the older they get.

Can you complain to EON to get it changed?

Thanks, Bunny. I've raised a case with Equifax, which was not resolved to my satisfaction. I've now got a 'Notice of Correction' on my account.

Is this a good or bad thing?
  • Not great. What does it say?

I would complain again to EON if you think you have a case.

I can't see how it can go from ok to 6 late the next month.

  • Downsides with an NOC on your file, means that if you ever apply for credit it will be manually reviewed by somebody, so you'll never get an instant decision.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

    Hi chipfatbob

Thought I'd pop on with a bit of information about the information we share with Equifax.

When we share information, we give a true reflection of the status of an account at the time of the share. At this time, if there's a debit balance on an account and no formal payment arrangement, we'll share this.

The 6 shows the balance is at least 6 months old at the time of the share. The number refers to the age of the debt and not the number of missed payments. The maximum number of months we'll share is 6.

The 'Unrecorded' doesn't really mean anything. It's just that there's been no bill released, so nothing to report on.

Once the balance has been cleared and the account is up to date, we'll share an 'S.' This will show there's no longer a debit balance and will reduce the impact of the '6.'

    Hope this is of interest.

Yes, all very interesting. But it would be better if incompetent energy companies didn't "share" anything.

    Malc,

Many thanks for the information. I have been on the phone with Equifax. The account has been settled/up to date since Sept '12 but I do not have an S. Who should I contact?

Furthermore, the representative at Equifax informed me that as long as I have an active account with Eon, this '6' will stay live and will continue to negatively affect my credit status. I was advised the best course of action would be to close my account with Eon and after 6 years, the '6' would no longer be such a problem. Is this correct

    Cheers,

    Chipfatbob
