Cheap ??? energy club

Options
Wondered if anyone could tell me what is going on here.
I signed up for the cheap energy club a while back but it did not inform me when a cheaper deal was available, our supplier, EDF, did.
I started to do the switch through the cheap energy club and got transfered to moneysupermarket and that informed me that our monthly direct debit would be the same as we are paying now???
I went to the new supplier site, E.on, and that informed me that the monthly direct debit would be £14/month cheaper than going through the cheap energy club.

Your DD is not a true cost its an estimate based upon whatever figures you input .
Tariff standing charge and Kwh charge is what counts .
As with any attempt to save money check all routes and other comparison sites .
Pointless having a lower DD for a few months only for it to rise due to your consumption .

Hi Cratchitsboss - JJ Egan's comments are correct around the tariff charges. Irrespective of if you apply through Cheap Energy Club or direct to the supplier, the actual standing charge and usage rates should be the same.

It might be that your Energy Club account usage details need updating - if you'd like us to look into this further you can email us energyclub@moneysavingexpert.com.
  • I did check that the figures on our Cheap Energy Club page were about right and I entered fairly accurate figures for the KWH usage that our current supplier based their monthly direct debit on and which was the same figure that Cheap Energy Club/moneysupermarket used, I realise it's can only ever be an estimate but it is the bottom-line for me, the figure I am paying. I did not proceed with the switch via Cheap Energy Club so I don't know if that figure was what I would eventually have had to pay per month but the E.on site quoted a figure that I would be paying and it was £14/month cheaper!

There is also the question as to why EDF informed me of the cheaper deal when Cheap Energy Club did not, which was what I understood it was supposed to do.

Last years usage multiplied by kwh + 365 x standing charge for each utility .As per the tariff of any supplier you choose .
Totalled and divide by twelve = rough guide to monthly DD .

Repeat the DD is not the way to cost as its not the bottom line and certainly not the bottom line if your quote of £14 less is ramped up at a later date .
  • I jointed Cheap Energy Club last month and switched to British Gas Fixed Price November 2015. Four weeks later, after I gave my first meter readings to British Gas it tells me I am on their standard tariff, which is more expensive than my previous energy supplier SSE! MoneySavingExpert has switched me to an expensive tariff which I have never agreed to in the first place!! Now not only do I not save money I m stuck with a more expensive British Gas for weeks before Another switch takes place. What a scam! Never trust this web site again ever!

When I've switched I've always had information direct from the supplier which confirms the tariff and monthly payment - did you not get information from BG or did you just not bother to read it?
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

Can you actually sign up by mistake to the standard tariff via MSE energy saver club ??
Normal for you to receive all the information and have 14 days to cancel once you initiate the switch .
Once you join BG the tarrif shows on your BG web account .

I'm certain it's not a scam. For both suppliers, are you comparing the monthly DD amounts or the unit charge and standing charges?

Hi Deek - I believe we've replied to your email today. So you might find it easier to reply via that method.

We'll be in touch when we have further information, but it sounds as British Gas might have made an error in processing the application.

The tariff which we have recorded for a switch is shown on your switch confirmation email and saved on your Energy Club account page.

    I hope this helps.
