Buy or still rent aged over 40?

  • At least you sold your property at the right time!
Without knowing your individual details (married, kids, job etc) I don't think anyone can give much useful advice.

If you're single and can buy a one bed flat, then that is completely different to a guy with a wife and four kids to house.

Also, it's surprising how many men are completely cured of depression by emigrating to exotic lands...

I don't know if it's the exotic food, women, culture or weather, but it is certainly under reported...

Google it if you don't believe me...
  • Thanks everyone for all your replies, much appreciated.

Regarding the medical it must have been for mortgage protection insurance. I was thinking wrongly it was for the actual mortgage.

I decided to sell my flat as I was wanting some more space as it was only a studio plus the block it was in began attracting tenants who were noisy and into drugs. At the time I put it up for sale I think I was the only owner occupier in the block of 8 flats.

I am favouring the buy option now but it wont be until at least next year I think. In a way, I miss the luxury of being able to do exactly what I want in my own space instead of having to get a landlord approval for so many things.
  • Thanks everyone

I wonder how much you would have got for your flat if you'd waited until 2008/9 to sell?

Not sure as when I put it up for sale in 2006 I had no idea how high the prices had increased. A few months ago it was bought for less than I sold it for, fully refurbished and is back on the market for £15000 more than I sold it for.

Its hard to believe now that when I bought the flat you could get them for as little as £10000 in average condition!
