Probably not possible, because apart from the USA you don't need to go through Immigration in order to change 'planes.

I recently gave advice when a British citizen living in China lost his passport; used an emergency travel document to visit the UK; and took a side trip to France before going home to China. That is probably about as much wear and tear as such a document is likely to get.

Unless you have to change airports. And I thought I'd read something about people transiting Schipol having to pass through immigration in some circumstances, but I may have made that up.

No advice to give you but just wanted to send you hugs. What a dreadful situation for both of you. Hope he either gets to join you, or you realise that a holiday on your own for peace and quiet is not that bad after all!

We got on a flight over the summer that did a stop over (we didn't even know until we got on the plane) and we had to get off the plan AND go through security again (including showing passports again) before we could board the same plane again.

Yes, but security is not the same as immigration.

Getting back to the problem ( and thank you for all your kind words especially) there appears to be no such thing on the gov.uk website or over the phone (according to the estranged other half) about getting an appointment and getting a passport the same day, I had an argument today with him about how he's not trying hard enough. My friends and family have been supportive up until the point that they're like "oh it can't be that bad you're by yourself in sunny Majorca! Just enjoy yourself!" Now for the soppy part.. I warn you right now:
I sit by myself at mealtimes and at the bar (all inclusive) surrounded by couples and families. I thought I was quite independent but this has been a shock to the system. I'm sick of saying table for 1. ( I know I am trying to get a grip but I'm not that well-travelled. I have friends who go away by themselves)
I keep thinking "oh he would have loved this." The resort (cala d'or) is beautiful. We share everything together and this beautiful place was meant to be shared. I've spoken to two girls about my age late twenties to thirties, who commended me for my bravery. It really is just a brave face. I don't want to tag onto anyone as a) I would hate it if I was in their position and b) I'm quite a reserved character anyway.
I'm trying to mentally get over the fact I'm by myself. Obviously staff and other residents will wonder. It's embarrassing. I was approached by a shady character on the beach just because I said hello to him, I walked further along and he was in my face saying could we chat, am I alone etc.? It's ok Ill remain vigilant. It's just hard as I'm not used to it.

If anyone has any ideas, I went for a drive today to Alcudia which was nice but if anyone has any recommendations I'd happily receive them, I was trying to find a really posh spa to indulge away from prying eyes but anything would be welcome. And of course safe for a girl in her late 20s trying her best to look not vulnerable.
  • Hi Emily, I hope tonight was a bit better for you. What I would do if it was me would be to look out for a couple of girls, or a small group of girls. I'm sure they wouldn't mind having you join them for dinner or some drinks. Couples may be a bit more difficult, but if I was on holiday with my frinds, and found out that someone was on their own, I'd have no qualms at all about spending time with them and including them. I'm sure you would do the same too if the tables were turned, so don't feel bad about starting a conversation.

A spa in the hotel sounds like a lovely treat that you deserve.

I would imagine your other half is feeling terrible now, and will be trying all he can to sort it out. But you may need to accept he can't make it and try to enjoy your time. Are there activities at the hotel, it may not be exactly what you would want to do, but joining in could really help to get to know people.

Try a diving course, join a day trip, anything where a group of people do it rather than just couples.

Be brave tomorrow, just say "hello" to a few people (maybe not men on their own!) and get chatting.

Let us know how you are getting on...

Firstly,an emergency passport is only issued abroad, if you lose your passport or its out of date and you have to get back to the UK in an emergency. A damaged passport cannot be replaced using the Premium 4 hour service. It has to be the Fast track service which can take up to 7 days, so not trying hard enough does not apply.

If he could get his company to say that his passport was with an embassy as part of a visa application, he could persuade someone at a passport office to issue another passport.

Similar story here, with a successful ending:
