Help please re benefit amount change

Hi, hope someone can help me. I was on esa in support group, until I got a letter last april, saying from April my money was £101 a week as I was in the work related group. I received that amount for six months and was asked to go to an atos medical a month ago. Today I received a letter saying from April 2014 I will receive £123.70 a week as I am in the support group. It says I will also be paid £22.55 which is arrears from 20th to 26th September. In two places on the letter it states 'The amounts on this page are payable from 12th April 2014' and also 'From 12th April 2014 your ESA will be £123.70 a week'. and today I received 22.55 paid into my bank.

My question is why does it say from 12th April 2014 my esa will be £123 a week, when since 12th April 2014 I have only ever received £101 a week. Is this right? Hope this makes sense, thank you.

I personally would give them a call to clarify. I am no expert on letter writing, as you can probably tell from this post. However, it seems to me that a lot of these letters are pretty generic, and when your details are entered into the letter template, some of the other info in the template remains, that is not correct / pertinent to you.
  • Hi, I'm not an expert on ESA but it sounds to me like your increase has been backdated to April and you should soon be receiving the backpayment in your bank account. (Difference between £101 and £123 each week from April).

From what I've read on here about ESA I think they use the April date as that was when you were moved into WRAG from SG but once you had your f2f (medical) and were put back into SG you were again due the extra money.

The £20+ you've just received seems to be the difference for the past couple of weeks.

I hope this is right and I've explained it properly! I'm sure someone else who knows more about ESA will let you (& me) know if this is right. Give DWP a call to find out when you're back payment will go into your account.
  • The £123.70 is income related amount with EDP included for SG. The £22.55 is the diff between WRAG/SG & I expect that the most arrears that could be paid now is 1 weeks worth hence that arriving in bank account. Someone will have to calculate how many weeks £22.55 arrears are due from 12th April to 20th Sept. Then you should get another payment in for this amount. Meanwhile your 14 day amount will be £247.40. Hope that makes sense.
  • Thank you for your help, will give them a call.
