External hard drives

hi all..

i have a new comptuer. (with vista arrrrgggghhhh)
on the old one i had an extra 250g hard drive where i keep all my music.
so i put it in an 'integral' box thingie which makes it portable and v handy, mainly cos it wouldnt fit in the new comptuer, and should connect up to my new pc by usb cable.. it did initally and i set up itunes to import all the songs from there, but now i have plugged it in and it doesnt show up on the pc.. the pc makes a little noise when i plug it in so it is recognising that something is plugging in to the usb port but that's it.. i think the actual unit itself when i used it before was making a noise, much like the pc/laptop when it started up too, now it just makes 2 slight buzz noises and then nothing, but the lights come on and the power is going to it..

help.. i needs me music (blonde would-be techie).. ta.
