Swapping from Eon to Co-op incorrect readings. Worth the hassle?

I am swapping from Eon to Co-op and just had my final electricity bill from Eon.

Because I was on holiday for 12 days and used hardly any electricity the 12 days before I gave my final reading to the Co-op that reading was 107 kWh less than it would have been if I had not been on holiday.

However it seems that the Co-op or Eon must have decided that the reading I gave was too small given what I was using previously and have decided on a final reading that is 107 kWh more than I gave them.

Which would have been correct if I had not been on holiday.

Which means that I will be paying Eon £2.40 more than I should.

Would you inform Co-op and Eon of their error or do as my wife says and do nothing as "it's only £2.40 !!!!!!"

They got the gas readings correct.

I agree with Cardew, take your wife's advice - life is a bit to short to go into battle over £2.40 unless of course you want the sport of it all. You could squander it all just on the phone calls.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
  • If the difference in the reads on your elec is less than 250 units the suppliers would not change them anyway as there is an acceptable tolerance when changing suppliers. The agreed tolerance between suppliers for Electricity is 250 units.

    Hi r2015,

I thought I would pop on here and give you some advice from our side.

When you change supplier we’ll use the same meter reading as your new energy supplier. This is to make sure that you only get billed once for the energy you’ve used. Sometimes these meter readings can be taken incorrectly, estimated or not sent through in time. The new supplier is responsible for this reading, whether it’s collecting an actual one from you or estimating it based on your previous meter reading history (which we would send to them)

If this happens we will raise an agreed reads dispute (ARD) with the other supplier. If both suppliers agree to the new meter reading we’ll both bill you to it. Both suppliers can start this process, so if you’ve already contacted Co-op they should have done this.

If you’ve got a meter reading for the date that you changed supplier we’ll need this from you. As well as the two suppliers, there are some other parties involved in the background which means it can take up to 6 weeks, but it’s usually much quicker.

    I hope this helps.

Anything for an easy life, I will not be getting in touch with Co-op or Eon about the discrepancy in my readings.
