how do i know which card to apply for to ensure my existing cards are transferrable?

Options
I have currently two cards one a mastercard from bhs and one a standard barclaycard. In the past I have a applied for a card and not been able to use the transfer deal as it was underwritten by barclaycard. Which card can I get that will pay off both cards I currently have?

Comments

  • Any from the high-street banks should be ok, IIRC BHS is underwritten by BarclayCard.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

Sainsburys or Tesco, who both offer 33 months, would be suitable, assuming it's 0% duration that's important to you, rather than the size of the BT fee.

But to answer your thread title question, the issuer will always be shown in the credit agreement, which you can usually view online.

You wont get a credit agreement until after successfully applying which is then a bit late if you've selected another card underwritten by the same creditor

Their website, often the footer and if not the T&Cs, will tell you who is writing the business irrespective of who's brand appears in the top left.

I nearly wrote "credit agreement/T&Cs", but didn't for reasons of clarity/laziness!

However, and since you've picked me up on it, you certainly can view credit agreements online at MBNA, Virgin*, Halifax**, M&S, Sainsburys, et al...before you make an application. After all, the OP is only interested in the first sentence/paragraph to identify the lender/underwriter, not the got-to APR, credit limit, etc which are, of course, personal/specific to the account being opened.

    * Time limited link, so be quick!

** This one is marked 'Draft' but even though it's not the real thing the underwriter is unlikely to change once your personal credit agreement is presented on screen/despatched with the card. ;)
