Car Boot sales - why don't books sell?

I've started using https://www.bukshoppe.com/ to sell my son's ex-university text books. No fees or commission - it's between you and the buyer once contact is made. Sold a few already0

I sell books for Kidney Research UK at car boots and book fairs and have NO PROBLEM selling books at all. However, there are a few ground rules:
Have good variety. You need a mix of childrens, reference, thrillers, classics and best sellers. If all you have is chick lit then you won't sell much.
Avoid tatty. Loads of tatty books mean people don't even bother looking.
Avoid anything that was given away free with a newspaper, and also avoid anything "common" that everyone has already read such as Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code. We get given dozens of those every year and no-one wants them.
I give a guarantee to people who donate books to me that they will NEVER go to landfill unless they are mouldy, smelly and falling apart. I once was given a set of Chemistry books in German and managed to find a home for them.
It pains me when I see charity shops turning away books because I would take them!0 -
If you don't have much room on your table at a boot sale, try using the boot of your car. I left the boot open, with the floor of the boot filled with books, all stacked spine upwards (like on a shelf, but laying down if that makes sense). I had a few on the table with a note to say lots more in the boot.
Was selling at 50p or 3 for £1 and actually sold quite a lot. They were your standard bestseller titles by common authors too. Previous boot sales where I had them in boxes or on the floor I hardly sold any at all.
I have also (recently) donated a lot to a Dr Bernado's charity shop who were very happy to receive them.0
