Moving Broadband to New Home

When moving house (from one rented home to another) I've known a few weeks in advance when I'd be moving so got the broadband supplier geared up for a move from one property to the next. I am buying this time round and not sure when to make them aware of the move. Hoping to exchange in the next couple of weeks with a completion a week after. Should I contact Plusnet now? My only worry is that I'm at the point where the purchase could fall through and don't want to set the ball moving with a broadband move to a home I don't own!

Normally I'd wait until exchange, although you could always call them and ask if you can cancel the move if necessary.
Is Broadband vital to you for work etc? Or could you live without it for a bit?
You could always look at getting a 4G portable wifi unit - EE have these for £40 upfront on a rolling monthly contract (with £8-£20 Quidco cashback). My parents are with PlusNet - they recently moved house and were without Internet for several weeks more than PlusNet initially said - I lent them a mobile wifi unit which they were very glad of...Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

Has your new property already got an active phone line? It shouldn't take long for your supplier to move you, when I last moved house we moved in on the Saturday but didn't get round to calling BT until Monday. By Wednesday our phone and broadband had been transferred.
If you have a week between exchange and completion that should give you plenty of time to get it sorted, so I would leave it until then to get the ball rolling.0 -

I have to say that I am truly amazed. I could only wish for this level of service with my recent BT broadband order. Placed the order mid-May and was given an installation date of 29th September (today!)
Only by complaining repeatedly, and as far up as the executive office, did I manage to get an install date at the very end of July.0 -
I have a 3 phone with unlimited data so could use that for general Internet. Don't specifically need Internet for work but I do occasionally work from home but I could tether my phone to devices, assuming if have decent signal in the new house.
In this day and age though everything is connected, TV, youview box, remote controlled lamps etc.
Also I am paying up front for line rental, so assume I'd lose out while I'm without a connection.0 -

I don't think you are especially lucky - 2 weeks is average.
Sounds like the other poster was very UNlucky though !I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I'm shortly to move my Plusnet broadband so have looked into this a bit. They recommend giving 2-3 weeks notice.
You shouldn't really do this before exchange because the completion date could be delayed or the sale could fall through completely. It sounds like you can manage without Internet for a week or two if needs be, so I'd wait until exchange.
By the way, Three typically ban tethering (depends on your tariff) and actively detect when you're doing this and kill your connection.
I checked the phone signal in my new place during my first viewing...!0
