British Gas Homecare
Not sure if this is the correct thread but here goes.
My elderly mum moved out of her home in February this year but kept paying her direct debits to british gas for her fuel and for the homcare service. She has now sold the house and no longer requires the annual service that comes with the homecare plan, it is up for renewal on 1st November and so I have let them know to cancel this as it is no longer required. I have also cancelled her direct debit.
How do we go about claiming back the money paid on the annual homecare service plan that expires in November 2014 as it has not been used and she will not be using the free annual service? Many thanks

You need to check the T&C but probably its a contract and you pay the contract until the end date . Or dependant upon the T&C you may be able to cancel earlier without penalty .
If you have not informed homecare until now then you have no valid claim as the policy was available to use .Not the providers fault if a policy is not used .0 -
Agree with the above.
If you speak nicely to BG;), you might get a goodwill credit against the cost of a Homecare service in her new property.0 -
Okay money off a new homecare plan not an option as she is living with us. I have cancelled it now so it is not renewed. As for it not being the providers fault well! she only ever used it for the boiler service and thought as this has not going to happen now some monies would have been credited. well shut of British Gas in my view! Have cancelled the direct debit too just in case they try to take money for the next year.0

Homecare is in affect an insurance policy that if things goes wrong you can claim on it. Because someone has not needed to claim does not mean they can claim any monies back.0
