Parking ticket at home!

These things are so frustrating! I am going to follow the advice on here in dealing with the company who issued me with a fine - VCS. Really, this is nothing more than venting my frustration.

I have rented my current place for nearly 2 years, and had a parking space behind a gate for all of that time, for which I pay more rent.

Earlier this year the landlords entered a deal with VCS to monitor parking, so I was given a permit to stick in my window etc. No problems until this weekend I bought a new car ( a treat after a recent illness) and in my haste/excitement, forgot to put the pass in the window.

The frustration comes when I contacted the landlords who told me there is nothing they can do about it?! The land belongs to them , not VCS - so how are they not able to do anything about it?!

Fair enough at the time there was no permit in the window, but considering this is my parking space in the first place, you'd think they would be a bit more helpful. On top of my monthly rent I now am 'required' to cough up another 60 quid. I really hope I have the willpower to stay strong and not pay and contest it, but I don't have much energy at the moment!

You don't need much energy, it's only VCS, easily sent packing. Read the Newbies thread.

And don't call it a fine as it is not.
  • Thanks for the replies/support!

I get the impression that there have been a lot of interactions with this VCS outfit then? I've had a quick look at the newbie thread - it goes against my nature to just ignore but I'll try!

It just worries me because I saw that programme a few weeks ago where people get pulled over for unpaid fines and its mounted up to about £500 and they can't drive off until they've paid it.

I have been in touch with the landlord once and will try again as I don't accept that there is nothing they can do.

Yes we know VCS very well.

No-one has suggested ignore, the Newbies thread certainly didn't, so you'd better read it again!

VCS is a tin-pot private company, they can't fine you, and they certainly can't pull you over and detain you! All you've got from them is a speculative invoice.

You want to be having a chat with your landlord about interference with your right to quiet enjoyment of your property.

  • Sorry I didn't mean ignore, I mean wait until I get a letter in the post!

As neither the landowner nor the PPC have sustained a loss, they cannot claim damages from you for breach of contract.

There are two ways to deal with this, use advice on here on how to appeal to POPLA, and cost them money, or ignore. They are unlikley to take you to court as they would have to prove that your actions have cost them the monies they claim, which would be almost impossible, so what they would probably do is huff and puff, send threatening letters, and may even telephone yiu,

If they do you can make life difficult for them, complain to newspapers, radio stations, the DVLA , BPA, your MP, Trading Standards etc.

Have you spoken to your landlord?
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.
  • Thanks, I'd definitely be going to the local press about this.

I have spoken to the landlord, and they have said that there is nothing they can do about it! I don't believe that for one second. I've read of instances with supermarkets where if you write in with proof (a receipt etc) then they will 'call off the dogs'. No reason why my landlord couldn't do the same if they so wished.

VCS are first class professional scammers who live off the soft touches in life, dont pay them !!!!!! all, follow the advice on this forum and you wont be filling there grubby bank account up, and your landlord is a cretin who knows full well he can stop this painful nonsense.
PPCs say its carpark management, BPA say its raising standards..... we all know its just about raking in the revenue.
