Housing benefit suspended due to tax credit change

Hi,

My GFs housing benefit has been suspended as she had a small change in tax credits (they went down a few pounds) I expect she should have kept the local authority informed of changes but now the LA have been notified of the Tax Credit change they have suspended her housing benefit until they can review the changes.

She spoke the LA the day after she received the suspension letter and supplied the information she wanted the next day. They have now said it will be towards the end of October before they can review her benefits (they were suspended mid August). Can the LA leave her almost three months with suspended housing benefit? Is there anyway to speed up their review?

She has a private landlord and will have to make rent payments from her little savings and I have offered to help her as well. They have also now taken away her council tax exemption, so yet more payments are needed.

After receiving the tax credit notification she has appealed this and had them increased again, however this then started a new suspension for housing benefit. Then the tax credits were changed slightly as they made an extra payment, and another letter saying they've been suspended (I think 4 so far).

Yes, they can - they may have a backlog.

She will receive back payments from the LA, and if she takes the correspondence from the local authority to the landlord, most will take that into consideration.

If she's struggling, she could ask for it to be considered as a priority, but I'm not sure you'll get anywhere.
