Faulty light switch, replace or repair?

Options
The light switch in my living room has started playing up. If I switch it on, the light just flashes, however if I hold the switch at the midway point (between on and off (where the switch itself is basically vertical)) the light comes on. But once I move the switch to its "on" position the light goes off.

So in short, the switch only works at its midway point.

Does this sound like a loose component that can be easily fixed or is it a new switch I need?

Try Wilkinsons for cheap electrical spares.

It won't be possible to repair the old one unless it is very old (so that the internal cover is held in place by screws). Even then, if the plastic has broken so that the rocker is loose (which sounds likely), it won't be easy to make a reliable repair at all.

Thanks. It wasnt a cost thing, I just wasnt sure if the symptoms were indicative of something as simple as a loose wire/connection.

Easy to check for that, if you haven't already done so.

With a faulty switch, take extra care to identify and switch off the correct circuit at the consumer unit.
