Hi
Basically I am responsible for the left side of the fence in my house. On the right side its all plants growing, there is a very old fence in between the plants on my side and there side, but I am removing them all as they need a lot of maintenance and makes the garden look a lot smaller than it actually is, but if i put a fence on my side, my neighbor's plants will still come to my garden as I dont know how deep the roots are and probably even shared and it will keep ruining my fence, is there a way of completely eliminating this problem as I really worried that the roots of her plants are in my garden too.
Also is there anything I can use to kill those plants, I dont want to get something which will ruin the garden long term for me too as the plants have about 20cms thick base.

Which plants are you wanting to kill? If you kill your neighbours plants, be prepared for the consequences.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Dig down and install a root barrier.
You are entitled to cut out and remove anything that is on your property, so if it's your neighbors plants then cut them back to the boundary.0 -
Hi
Thanks for the reply, I am doing that exactly but the fence in between is just very fragile and all broken and bent, I do not want him to come and say you broke my fence later if you know what I mean.0 -
Take photos now, tell him what you are planning and how fragile the fence is & that it is very likely to fall down and that if this happens because you are tidying your side that you are not being held responsible due to the fences condition.0

Hi,
be neighbourly and offer to go half on a new fence, it's for your benefit also.0 -

Of course roots pass between properties, though if you are really worried about this, you can install root barriers. Normally, unless we are talking bamboo, large trees, or something similar, or weeds, it's not seen as an issue.
Most people see gardens as a place to grow plants. They may even be attractive. You want to take yours out....fine, but your neighbour doesn't have to share your concept of a garden, nor will the roots of their plants do much harm if all you have is grass.0
