Link Financial

Morning all,

I've received a letter from Link Financial this morning so had a search through the fourms and it seems they have quite a reputation.

Short version of the story is they called me last week via my company's mobile number asking if I used to live at an address that I haven't lived in for nearly 6 years. I confirmed I did but asked what the call was in relation to. The person then started asking for personal details - date of birth that kind of thing so I assumed it was a phishing call and told them I wouldn't pass any personal information over the phone.

Today I received a statement of account stating that I owe £1900. It says the date assigned to Link was 28.06.2004 but doesn't state who I actually owe the money too.

I was in financial troubles back during that period thanks to my ex-husband. I had to sell my house to pay everything off and as far as I was aware I paid all outstanding debts.

Do I find out what this statement relates to or do I leave it alone?

Thanks for any advice anyone is willing to share.

RC

  • The debt will be statute barred now because it's over 6 years old, this thread will help you understand what that means.

Morally, you still owe the money and should pay back the debt, but it's your choice as to what you do now. If you are planning to pay it back, I'd ask them to tell you who the debt was originally from and what for etc.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

    Hi RC

Yes it does indeed sound like this debt will now be statute barred and therefore too old for any legal action to be possible.

You might find our fact sheet on time limits useful. It includes a sample letter you can send to Link if you so choose:
