ID fraud during mortgage application

Hi, I have searched high and low for an answer on this. Hopefully someone will have experience.
I am selling a property and was set to exchange contracts last week. My buyer needed to amend their mortgage offer and when they did so uncovered ID fraud on their name.
I have been told there is no issue with the buyer and they are not suspected of any wrong doing but this needs rectifying before funds can be released and exchange of contracts.
My question is, has anyone any experience of this? And how long should it take to rectify?
Many thanks
