Hospital Transfer

This is not really consumer rights but is the closest section I can see for my query.

My wife had an a accident while on holiday and is currently immobile in a hospital in England. Is there a procedure to have her transferred to a hospital nearer home in Scotland?

Any advice would be appreciated or point me to a more relevant section.

  • Sorry about your wife.

Have you asked the hospital? Either the staff caring for her, or the Patient Advice Liaison Service?

I'd have thought that this was something you would discuss with the hospital.

Yes, once a patient is stable and fit for transfer, it can usually be arranged to transfer them to their local hospital.

You need to speak to the hospital as others have said.

Thanks for the responses. Yes the hospital was my first port of call however all departments are closed out with 9:00-5:00, Monday to Friday. I will call them at 9:05 this morning.
